New York, NY - UPDATED May 9, 2023: The Braata Folk Singers, a performing arts group based in New York City that specializes in the traditional music and folklore of the Caribbean, proudly presents CARIBBEAN BLEND June 3-11, 2023. The group, as part of Braata Productions, was founded in 2009 by Andrew Clarke, a Jamaican-born actor, singer, and director.
Braata Folk Singers presents CARRIBEAN BLEND on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 8:00 pm at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center (153-10 Jamaica Ave., Queens, NYC), Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 7:00 pm at Bronx Bethany Church (971 E 227th Street, Bronx, NY 10466) and Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 7:00 pm at St. Ann & The Holy Trinity Church and Pro-Cathedral (157 Montague Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201). Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door, and can be purchased online at betterunite.com/BraataProductions-braatafolksingersinconcert2023.
Caribbean vocal ensemble, the Braata Folk Singers have expanded their repertoire in brand new live production. The Braata Folk Singers' repertoire includes a variety of Caribbean folk music genres, including mento, ska, reggae, and calypso. The group also performs spirituals, gospel music, and other African diaspora music forms. The group's mission is to preserve, promote, and celebrate the cultural heritage of the Caribbean through music, dance, and storytelling. The Braata Folk Singers, under the creative direction of Jamaican-born actor, singer, and producer Andrew Clarke (The Harder They Come, The Public), and the musical direction of Joel Edwards, will present CARRIBEAN BLEND. Armed with brand new songs with a tailored focus on celebrating the 45th independence of the nature Isle of Dominica, the 50th year of independence for the Islands of the Bahamas, and the 40th independence St. Kitts & Nevis, the upcoming season is designed to celebrate some of the most remarkable musical milestones of each of these nations - looking back while also moving forward.

About Braata Productions
Braata is a Jamaican colloquial term meaning 'more,' which is what this company aspires to do -- give its supporters and audiences something more at all times. Started by actor/singer Andrew Clarke in May 2009, the goal for Braata has always been to provide entertainment and education to our patrons and give voice to diverse experiences, performers, writers and directors plus bring Caribbean folk culture, music movement, stories, artists and theatre to the United States.
Braata aims to authentically represent the culture of the Caribbean islands and to prioritize cultivating and re-telling Caribbean stories and legends for generations to come. Braata is dedicated to giving Caribbean and Caribbean-American artists a platform through which to showcase their work and talents. Braata seeks to define its position as one of the leading performing arts organizations in New York City. We maintain strong ties to the community and have a reputation for artistic excellence, educational innovation, and fiscal responsibility. Allowing immigrants' voices a chance for creative expression, our principal activities include theatre, music, and folk arts, in addition to education and community outreach. These activities take us on engagements outside of the 5 boroughs of NYC to Connecticut, Rochester, and Boston to name a few. Braata's goal is to rekindle an appreciation for Caribbean culture & heritage amongst Caribbeans and non-Caribbeans alike by engaging community members in New York and surrounding areas.
In its brief history, Braata Productions’ projects and programs have served over 350 artists, directors, designers, technicians and young entrepreneurial artists and has enjoyed many successes including the creation of The Braata Folk Singers, Braata Education & Outreach titled Project BE, Braata Theatre Workshop and The “Braata" Award.
