Performances run December 1-7. Tickets for The Tank are $23-$43 and are available at https://thetanknyc.org/calendar-1/circ.

When an eighteen-year-old boy undergoes an elective circumcision, he's confronted with his soon-to-be-excised body part in human form, demanding answers. What follows is an exploration of Australian queerness, wherein the boy is thrust back into his seminal sexuality-forming memories in order to provide an answer, so that he can wake up from this nightmare.

The production stars writer Eddie Grey* (Broadway: The Book of Mormon, Harmony; Australia: Wicked, Legally Blonde, Spring Awakening. Off-Broadway: Harmony. U.S. tour: The Book of Mormon) as Luke, and JD Martin* (Film/TV: Seneca, Manifest, Bull) as Foreskin.

The production features costume design by Michelle Ridley and sound design by Germán Martínez. Publicity by Katie Rosin/Kampfire PR. Marketing Director is Chad Burris, and the Social Media Manager is Matthew Mucha.

Website: http://circtheplay.com

Media Kit with Photos

BIOGRAPHIES

EDDIE GREY (Playwright) writes, directs & acts, and the Guinness World Records says he's the first gay man to do so (we live in a post-truth world). Eddie's from Australia, and while the reality-star-to-president pipeline initially drew him to the U.S., he stayed for universal health care. He comes from an acting background (sorry) and was on Broadway and on stage in shows such as The Book of Mormon, Harmony, and Wicked, to name exactly three. When his body got sick of doing 600 performances of the same show, Eddie turned to writing, directing, and other work that let him sit down. Prime Video, TINY, Dekko, and Shorts.TV has acquired short films he directed and wrote. He has screen projects set up with Aurora Pictures and Kilo Pictures (United Kingdom). As a playwright, Eddie most recently won the Australian Theatre Festival New Play Award for his play CIRC, about a dude getting an elective circumcision only to be faced with his foreskin in human form demanding answers. His other works include FRAU FANGUS’ REVENGE, JACK MORMONS and SCHOOLIES BUT WITH GAY STUFF.

EMILIO RAMOS (Director) is a New York City-based theatre director & creative collaborator originally from Melbourne, Australia. He directed the Off-Broadway revival of See What I Wanna See, which received three Drama Desk Award nominations, including Outstanding Revival of a Musical. In 2026, their work has been featured at Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Legendary), Lincoln Center’s American Songbook Series (Most Wanted) and in new works showings across the US and UK. He is also the co-creator of Carey: The Emancipation of Mimi, a parody musical that fuses the literary worlds of Stephen King and Mariah Carey. Currently, they serve as Associate Director for the Broadway and touring productions of Maybe Happy Ending, winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical. Other New York AD credits include the Tony-winning Broadway revival and subsequent U.S. tour of Parade, Hadestown on Broadway, Vanya (starring Andrew Scott) at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, and the acclaimed City Center Encores! production of The Light in the Piazza. Emilio is on adjunct faculty at NYU Steinhardt and was recently listed among the Theatrely31 Class of 2025. Skyler Gray represents him at The Gersh Agency, and he is a proud member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC). Emilio is mixed-race Filipino and Anglo-Australian. They are gender non-conforming and use he/they pronouns interchangeably.

NEIL GOODING PRODUCTIONS is a Tony Award-winning production company, established in 2002. It brings high-quality theatrical experiences to audiences in Australia and internationally. We uphold a strong emphasis on the development of new work, focusing particularly on Musical Theatre. Founder Neil Gooding was the founding Chairman and a founding member of Hayes Theatre Co in Sydney, where NGP's work includes the multi-award-winning Sweet Charity.

In the United States, Neil Gooding Productions produced the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Sunset Boulevard, Gypsy, Harmony, and Back to the Future. Earlier credits include Alan Cumming's Macbeth on Broadway, The 39 Steps and Handle with Care Off-Broadway, Holding the Man in the West End, and the Tony-winning The Ferryman, in which NGP was an investor. Upcoming is the West End production of All of Me in 2027.

In Australia, Neil Gooding Productions has recently toured The Woman in Black, Shirley Valentine and The 39 Steps. They recently presented a successful national tour of Steel Magnolias, directed by Lee Lewis, and the Australian premiere tour of the Olivier Award-winning Pride and Prejudice (sort of). They are also bringing the homegrown whodunnit Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Valkyrie back to QPAC's Playhouse in Brisbane in November 2026.

# # #
",
