THE YORK THEATRE ANNOUNCES LEADERSHIP APPOINTMENTS

Wendy Hall Named Managing Director; Stephanie Prugh Named Director of New Works and Development

NEW YORK, NY — The York Theatre is pleased to announce two key management promotions to its leadership team: Wendy Hall as Managing Director (formerly General Manager) and Stephanie Alvarado Prugh (formerly Director of Development) as Director of New Works and Development.

Wendy Hall brings decades of producing, general management, directing, and choreography to the role. As Executive Producer of the New Bedford Festival Theatre, she led productions including Beauty and the Beast, White Christmas, and The Wiz. As a director and choreographer, she has earned multiple BWW Awards, an Elliot Norton Award, and an IRNE Award. Off-Broadway, she served as Company Manager for Pen Pals and co-produced several Sondheim in Concert performances at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. As an Off-Broadway League member and Boston Conservatory alumna, Hall embodies a longstanding commitment to developing new musicals and preserving overlooked ones.

"The York is on the cusp of something truly special," said Hall. "After a groundbreaking season, we are pushing the boundaries of what Off-Broadway can be. I am honored to help shape the next generation of great musicals."

Stephanie Alvarado Prugh is a producer and dramaturg whose work spans new musical development and classical revivals. Since 2022, she has been the artistic producer of the Lyrics and Lyricists series at the 92nd Street Y, New York. Her dramaturgical credits include the award-winning revised The Unsinkable Molly Brown (Transport Group/The Muny/Denver Center, Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Revival) and Renascence (Transport Group, Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Musical). Regional credits include productions at La Jolla Playhouse and Denver Center Theatre Company. Stephanie holds a PhD in Theatre from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

"The York has long been a birthplace for new musicals, while holding space for the rich legacy of all that has come before," said Prugh. "I'm deeply honored to work with and support the incredible artists who trust us to help them build and nurture their musicals. "

THE YORK THEATRE, “Where Musicals Come to Life,” is the only theatre in New York City—and one of very few in the world—dedicated to developing and fully producing new musicals and preserving notable shows from the past. For over five decades, York’s intimate, imaginative approach to producing both original and classic musicals has earned critical acclaim and recognition from artists and audiences alike. Since 1997, The York has focused on new musicals in its Mainstage Series—most of them world, American, or New York premieres—by some of the field’s most esteemed creators and has also helped launch the careers of many talented new writers. Over 47 cast recordings from York Theatre productions are now available, including its acclaimed revival of CLOSER THAN EVER (2013 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Revival). Commercial transfers of such York premieres as THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS (THE MUSICAL!), SOUVENIR (Tony Award Nomination for actress Judy Kaye), and JOLSON & COMPANY, and revivals of PACIFIC OVERTURES and SWEENEY TODD (four Tony Nominations including Best Revival) have all showcased the importance of The York and its programs.

The York is the recipient of an Emmy Nomination, a special Drama Desk Award for “Developing and Producing New Musicals,” and a special Outer Critics Circle Award for “50 Years of Producing New and Classic Musicals.” Most recently, Stephanie Jae Park received a Lortel Nomination for her performance in The York’s Monte Cristo. The York is currently producing at The Theatre at St. Jean’s at 76th Street and Lexington Avenue.
