New York, NY (September 8, 2026) – The York Theatre (Joseph Hayward, Producing Artistic Director, Wendy Hall, Managing Director), in association with Cassandra Csencsitz, will present a special by-invitation-only reading of Kristen Lee Sergeant’s (BroadwayWorld "Best Special Event: Solo" nominee for Smolder) new one-woman musical BEYOND THE FRAME on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Michiko Studios, 15 West 39th Street NY, NY. BEYOND THE FRAME is an intimate exploration of the women who captivated Édouard Manet and of the painter who immortalized them. Through song and story, Sergeant brings those painted faces to life and explores what it means to see and be seen.

The cast features Kristen Lee Sergeant (Original albums: Smolder, Falling, Intoxication) as Performer, accompanied by Jody Redhage Ferber (Sara Bareilles, Jay Z) on Cello, Mary Ann McSweeney (Broadway: Girl from the North Country, Water for Elephants, Operation Mincemeat) on Bass, Allan Mednard (Dear Evan Hansen film, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Brandee Younger) on Drums/Percussion, Ted Nash (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, 2X Grammy Award Winner) as Arranger and on Reeds, Jeb Patton (After Midnight, Barbara Cook) as Co-Arranger and on Piano, and Jenny Scheinman (Broadway: Hadestown) on Violin.

Kristen Lee Sergeant is a singer, composer, and writer whose work builds worlds out of song, story, and philosophy.
In her previous work in concert and in recording, she has written her way through themes of fire (Smolder) and surrender (Falling), always bringing the audience to unexpected places: BroadwayWorld says that her work is “... the musical equivalent to a Martha Graham dance concert.”
Her fifth album, Intoxication, arrives on Sunnyside Records in March 2027. A jazz-rooted, theatrically inflected song cycle about desire and its costs — passion and poison both — it draws on her work as a certified sommelier, using the language of wine as a lens for appetite, ambition, and ruin. The record is produced by Michael Leonhart of Steely Dan and features two-time Grammy winner Ted Nash.
Sergeant has performed at Joe's Pub, Dizzy's Club, Birdland, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. She lives in New York. @klsergeant @beyondtheframeshow
