UNITED SOLO THEATRE FESTIVAL is pleased to announce the Off-Broadway premiere production of The Dysmorphic Diva, with music direction by famed Broadway conductor and arranger Lawrence Yurman (War Paint, Grey Gardens). The Dysmorphic Diva will play a one-night-only limited engagement at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). The performance takes place Thursday, October 24, 2026, at 8:30 P.M. After a sold-out world-premiere run at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2026 and a celebrated selection at the Theatre68 Arts Complex Festival, writer and performer Karen Macarah brings her acclaimed solo show, The Dysmorphic Diva (A Confessional Cabaret), to New York City. The production will play an exclusive Off-Broadway engagement on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 8:30 p.m. as an official selection of the 21st Annual United Solo Theatre Festival at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street).

Developed with an elite theatrical pedigree, the production was also coached by Tony Award-winning Broadway and cabaret legend Faith Prince (Guys and Dolls, Falsettoland), who brings renowned expertise in shaping raw, authentic solo material.

Described as a "confessional cabaret," the show chronicles one woman's vibrant, hilarious, and deeply moving journey from self-deprecation to self-acceptance. Macarah, a former lawyer turned Los Angeles-based performer, seamlessly strips away the pressure of perfection by embodying a colorful cast of comedic characters and weaving in raw, personal stories from her life.

Under Yurman's musical guidance, the production is a dynamic vocal showcase that blends humorous multimedia elements with beloved mid-twentieth-century to contemporary Broadway standards from staples like Cabaret, Falsettos, Pippin, Fiddler on the Roof, The Prom, and Merrily We Roll Along.

The Dysmorphic Diva has already struck a powerful chord with critics. Discover Hollywood Magazine highly recommended the show, hailing it as “electrifying and unforgettable,” while LA Hidden Gems praised Macarah as “raw and sincere in this lovely show about taking your power back.”

BIOGRAPHIES

KAREN MACARAH (Writer/Performer)is a writer, performer, and former lawyer from Los Angeles. She wrote and created The Dysmorphic Diva, which enjoyed a sold-out world premiere at Hollywood Fringe 2026 and an off-Broadway credit at United Solo. She is also gearing up for runs at The Braid Theater and the Soaring Solo Stars Series. Macarah previously produced and performed Wine Time With Roni (Hollywood Fringe/United Solo) and co-wrote and starred in the Encore Award-winning musical cycle Five. Favorite past stage roles include Mama Rose in Gypsy, Mary in Merrily We Roll Along, the Witch in Into the Woods, and Edith in Grey Gardens.

LAWRENCE YURMAN (Music Director) is a pianist, arranger and conductor with 35+ years of experience on Broadway and beyond. He was most recently the Music Director/Arranger and Conductor of the new Hoagy Carmichael musical STARDUST ROAD at the York Theatre. On Broadway, he was the music director of the musicals WAR PAINT and GREY GARDENS as well as the musical director/arranger of the revival of ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER starring Harry Connick, Jr. Larry also provided similar contributions to IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU. Additional Broadway: SIDE SHOW, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, GUYS AND DOLLS, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE and the original production of LES MISERABLES. Larry will be performing with Lea Salonga at 54 Below this coming December.
